During the episode, which aired on October 2nd under the special title “Growing Well”, Ra Mi-ran playfully introduced herself as “Professor of Ra Mi-ran University’s Camping Department.” She also discussed her upcoming projects, including tvN’s drama “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” and the Italian episode of the show “Europe Outside Your Tent”.
As a graduate of Seoul Institute of the Arts’ mask dance club, Yedae Folk Research Association, Ra Mi-ran shared a lighthearted moment with senior colleague Yoo Jae-suk, noting, “You give off an old-fashioned feeling. The mask dance club has a heavy and old-fashioned feel.” Yoo responded humorously, “I wasn’t old-fashioned, but many of my friends were,” before Ra Mi-ran revealed she learned Korean shaman dance from Song Eun-i. This prompted Yoo Jae-suk to quip, “Song Eun-i was always doing that at school.”
The conversation then turned to Ra Mi-ran’s expertise in camping, where she revealed her impressive collection of over 10 sleeping bags and 20 tents. “I love the sound of birds when I wake up in the morning and that crisp feeling that tingles my nose,” she shared. Being from Gangwon-do, she recommended several camping spots, including Anbandegi with its view of Ulsanbawi Rock, and described her enjoyment of seasonal dishes like spicy octopus and scallop shabu-shabu.
However, the most poignant moment came when Ra Mi-ran discussed her struggles during her early days. “When I was pregnant, we had no income. Both my husband and I were staying at home, neither of us doing well professionally. That’s when I discovered flea markets and began selling our household items,” she revealed.
“The flea markets were only open on weekends, but I wanted to sell during weekdays too. So I would sit on a mat in front of Soongsil University and later at Hongdae Playground,” Ra Mi-ran continued. “It might have looked pitiful or strange to others, but I actually found it enjoyable. During winter, when I was sitting there pregnant, a shop owner nearby even gave me a scarf. When I made 20-30,000 won, I’d buy side dishes for us to eat.”
