Ra Mi Ran: From the audience’s favorite supporting actress to the new box office star when she’s almost 50

For audiences who love Korean dramas, Ra Mi Ran is definitely a familiar name. The actress has appeared in many hit TV series but mostly plays supporting roles. She used to take part in the hit drama Reply 1988, playing the character of her same name. Thanks to this drama, the actress received a lot of praise from the public for her excellent performance of the character Ra Mi Ran through her natural acting.

Ra Mi Ran was born in 1975. In the early years of her career, she worked as an actress on the theater stage. In 2005, she made her first foray into the film industry with the work Lady Vengeance. But after that, despite participating in 40 consecutive works, the actress has yet to receive the recognition that she deserved.

It was not until 2012, when participating in the comedy film Dancing Queen, that the audience began to pay attention to Ra Mi Ran. Then, in 2020, the project ‘Honest Candidate’ gathered 1.53 million tickets, a rare hit during the Covid-19 outbreak that helped Ra Mi Ran gradually become a new box office star.

Ra Mi Ran rose to prominence on the Korean film scene at the age of 47. Her most recent film, Honest Candidate 2, broke box office records, outperforming even Hyun Bin and Yoona’s blockbuster, Confidential Assignment 2. She was dubbed the “Queen of Comedy” after her performances. She remarked that, at the age of 40, she intends to continue working as hard as her current renowned seniors and expects to be able to do so for at least another 15 years.
