“Queen Of Tears” Seizes No.1 On Netflix Global Top 10 With 100M Hours Of Cumulative Viewing Time

“Queen of Tears”, starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, has risen to the top spot on Netflix Chart with favorable reviews

Queen of Tears” depicts the love story of third-generation chaebol Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won) and Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun), the son of Yongur-ri, as they face a crisis in the third year of their marriage. The drama is airing on tvN, TVING and Netflix.

On April 3rd, Netflix announced that “Queen of Tears” topped the Global Top 10 (non-English) Series Rankings (from March 25th to 31st), proving its influence as a global syndrome. The drama has accumulated 93.8 million hours of viewing time since its release on March 9th.

According to the global OTT content ranking service FlixPatrol, “Queen of Tears” has entered Top 10 in rankings for both English and non-English TV series in 68 countries around the world, including the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, India, Greece, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, etc.

Major overseas media outlets are also highlighting the drama’s overwhelming popularity. US leading media outlet TIME published an article about “Queen of Tears” on March 29th under the title “‘Queen of Tears’ Is a Fresh K-Drama Romance Worth Watching”. Analyzing the reason behind the drama’s popularity, they said, “If there’s one thing that K-dramas do better than any other format, it’s blending genres to create fresh combinations. ‘Queen of Tears’ does something like this, only instead of genres it’s mixing the familiar and the novel. The result is that Queen of Tears is a story of real love and real life wrapped in the unbelievable trappings of K-drama.”

Earlier, US media Forbes also left a review, saying “Many K-dramas end with ‘happily ever after’, but ‘Queen of Tears’ starts that way”, adding “The drama not only has a solid cast, but boasts a talented screenwriter and two directors with a track record of drama success”. In addition, The Straits Times, Singapore’s largest daily newspaper and one of the most influential newspapers in Southeast Asia, poured compliments, saying “It has dynamic narratives, great chemistry between leading actors and attractive cast”, adding “This is a drama worth investing time to binge-watch”.

Meanwhile, episode 8 of “Queen of Tears” recorded an average rating of 17.9% in the Seoul area (peak 20.2%) and reached 16.1% nationwide (peak 18.2%). The drama once again broke its highest rating record for the fourth consecutive week. The drama also maintained its No.1 spot among programs on all channels.
