Producer of Victory Reveals Battle with Breast Cancer, Hyeri Shed Tears

On the 16th, a post titled “The movie Victory that I made during my second year of battling the disease has been released” was posted in a breast cancer patient community. The author of the post, identified as Ms. A, revealed, “I have stage 3 breast cancer and am currently in my third year of fighting it. I am a film producer, and this film was planned during my battle with the disease, filmed in the second year, and released a few days ago on August 14th.”

She continued, “Most of the actors and staff, except for those who knew me beforehand, did not know that I was a breast cancer patient during the filming.”

Ms. A shared, “While lying in bed enduring chemotherapy, I considered quitting the film industry that I had been in for over 20 years. However, I realized that I would be happier doing what I truly love, so I went to the set even while fighting the disease,” adding, “Being on set was more comfortable than lying in bed.”

Ms. A expressed her deep affection for Victory, saying, “Among the many films I have made, this one turned my difficult battle into something positive, and I wanted to cheer myself on. I sincerely hope that this film will be a source of strength for those who are going through and enduring the same time as me.”

Finally, Ms. A said, “There are several tear-jerking moments in this movie, and I was worried that my family would have a harder time if I cried, so I held back tears and used this movie as an excuse to cry openly. I support myself, and I support everyone who is currently fighting the same illness as me, as well as their families and those around them who are overcoming it together. I am grateful that today is a victory day for me.”

Victory, which was released on the 14th, depicts the journey of the “Millennium Girls,” a rookie cheerleading club filled with passion, as they cheer themselves and everyone else. Singer and actress Hye-ri plays the role of Pil-seon, filling the theaters with youthful energy.

However, it seems that Hye-ri is as passionate about Victory as producer Ms. A. Hye-ri actively promoted the film on SBS PowerFM’s 2 O’Clock Escape Cultwo Show on the 20th. She confessed, “It’s the first time I’ve cried while watching a film. So, I’m really upset that people don’t know about this film that I made and just pass by, and I think it’s the first time I’ve felt this much responsibility.” She continued,

“You’re going to choose the film because of me. But I’m worried that you might have a hard time making that choice, so I tell you, ‘It’s okay, trust me, just watch it once.'”

Additionally, Hye-ri is continuing her passionate promotion through her Instagram. She shares posts from moviegoers who review the film as stories and regularly uploads behind-the-scenes photos to show her affection.

Meanwhile, Victory ranked 5th at the box office, attracting a cumulative audience of 222,246 as of the 20th, 7 days after its release.
