Actor Lee Min-ho mourned the victims of the football stadium disaster in Indonesia.

Lee Min-ho wrote “pray for indonesia kanjuruhan” on his SNS account on October 2nd. Written in white on a black background, this message was to deliver the actor’s condolences for the football stadium disaster that happened in Indonesia the day before.

As Lee Min-ho, an actor who is famous not only in Korea but also throughout Asia, expressed his regret over the tragedy in Indonesia, fans also responded by sharing their sorrow and pain.

The incident occurred after the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya in the local professional football league was held at Java Kanjuruhan Stadium in eastern Indonesia on the afternoon of October 1st (local time).

When several thousand spectators tried to enter the stadium, the police began using tear gas to suppress them. Surprised by this, all the spectators flocked to the exits at once, causing casualties from pressure and suffocation. It was said that the number of deaths from this disaster had reached 174 but the Indonesian government reportedly revised it to 125 in their announcement.

According to local media, this accident caused the second highest amount of deaths in the history of association football worldwide, after the 1964 Tokyo Olympics qualifying match between Peru and Argentina in Peru which killed 328 people.
