According to Taiwanese authorities, Cai had joined the temple as a practitioner and accountant between April and May 2024. There, she had conflicts with well-known writer Wang Yun, who was dissatisfied with how she managed the temple’s financial records. In July 2024, harboring resentment, Wang Yun allegedly incited two female devotees to physically assault and beat Cai. Reports revealed that Cai knelt, apologized and pleaded for her life, but was still brutally attacked. She eventually fell into a coma and died on the spot.

Wang Yun and the others then wrapped Cai’s body with tape and nylon cords, placed it on a cart and returned it to the temple, staging it as an accident. Later, they withdrew all of Cai’s 2 million TWD savings from her bank account.
