Police Criticize BTS Suga’s Attempt To Reduce Seriousness Of His Drunk Driving Case

At a regular press conference on August 19th, an official from the National Police Agency said, “We are coordinating the schedule to summon Suga to the police station”, adding “We will investigate how he rode the electric scooter under the influence of alcohol at that time in detail”.

Regarding Suga’s drunk driving investigation, it was reported that the police would not respond to the request for investigation at night nor summon Suga on weekends.

As for Suga’s police photoline, the police said, “We will treat him the same as other suspects”, adding “The procedure is the same as when summoning other suspects.”

When asked about Suga and his agency Big Hit Music’s position that license revocation and fines had been imposed as if the investigation procedures were already completed, the police pointed out, “There should be an explanation of the remaining procedures. We don’t know why they issued such a statement, possibly because Suga was drunk and unable to remember the situation clearly”, adding “If drunk driving is dealt with on the spot, an explanation of the subsequent procedures is required.”

Earlier on August 6th, Suga was found falling while riding an electric scooter on the street of Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul at 11:27 p.m. A police walking nearby helped Suga get up and noticed that he was drunk. Therefore, he took Suga to the police station to conduct a breathalyzer test and the result of Suga’s blood alcohol level was 0.227%, high enough for a license revocation.

On the 7th, Suga released an apology on the fan communication platform Weverse, admitting that he violated the Road Traffic Act and explained the situation.

Suga is currently doing alternative military service as a social service worker. He will be discharged in June next year.
