The new Korean fantasy legal drama Phantom Lawyer starring Yoo Yeon Seok has quickly attracted attention after airing its first two episodes. The series combines legal investigations with supernatural elements and humor, creating a story that follows lawyer Shin I Rang, a man with the unusual ability to see ghosts. Together with talented attorney Han Na Hyun, played by Esom, he takes on unusual clients—spirits who seek justice for the unresolved issues they left behind in the living world.

The drama premiered on March 13 and 14 and immediately recorded impressive ratings. According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode achieved a nationwide rating of 6.3%, topping its broadcast time slot across all channels. The result was nearly double the rating of its predecessor From Today, I Am Human, which ended with 3.7%. The second episode continued the upward trend by reaching 8.7%, once again ranking first in its time slot and confirming strong early interest from viewers.

In the opening episodes, Shin I Rang begins his first supernatural case by helping the ghost of Lee Kang Poong, portrayed by Heo Sung-tae. The man died due to a medical mistake during surgery, but the truth had been hidden and his wife was about to accept a small compensation settlement from the hospital responsible. Determined to uncover the truth, Shin I Rang investigates the case while facing a series of strange situations, including moments when the spirits temporarily possess his body. Eventually, he manages to obtain a hard drive containing footage from the surgery day, proving the hospital’s wrongdoing and allowing Lee Kang Poong to receive justice before finally moving on peacefully.

Just when Shin I Rang believes that resolving the case might stop him from seeing ghosts, a new spirit appears—this time the ghost of an idol trainee. The unexpected client hints that the next case will bring even more unusual situations, increasing anticipation among viewers for upcoming episodes.
Although the supernatural legal theme is not entirely new in Korean television, as similar concepts have appeared in series like The Midnight Studio and May I Help You, Phantom Lawyer still manages to stand out thanks to its engaging storytelling and Yoo Yeon Seok’s lively performance. The actor also revealed that this role marks his first time portraying a comedic character. To prepare for the part, he observed different character traits for each episode and even practiced a dance routine for a scene where his character becomes possessed by an idol trainee. With strong ratings and positive early reactions, the drama is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about Korean series currently on air.
