According to an exclusive report by OSEN on March 6, the new MBC Friday–Saturday drama will premiere on April 10. The series will consist of 12 episodes and will follow the currently airing drama In Your Radiant Season.
Originally, the production team had been considering several dates in April for the launch. However, the broadcast schedule was affected by the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC). Because the Japan–Korea match scheduled for March 7 caused the current drama to skip an episode, its finale was pushed back by one week. As a result, the premiere of Perfect Crown was naturally moved to the second week of April.
Perfect Crown is a romance drama set in a fictional 21st-century constitutional monarchy version of South Korea. The story follows a chaebol heiress who has everything except noble status and a royal prince who has status but cannot have anything he truly wants. Their relationship develops into a romantic story about breaking social barriers and destiny, combining royal intrigue with modern social themes.
The drama attracted massive attention from the casting stage thanks to its two leading stars. IU will play Seong Hee-joo, a wealthy chaebol woman who possesses everything except royal lineage. Byeon Woo-seok will portray Grand Prince Ian, the king’s son who cannot inherit the throne.
The project is also gaining attention because it marks the next major work for both actors following their recent hits. IU recently starred in When Life Gives You Tangerines, while Byeon Woo-seok rose to global fame through the drama Lovely Runner. Because of their immense popularity, expectations for Perfect Crown are already extremely high.
The upcoming drama is also facing major expectations regarding viewership ratings. Among MBC’s Friday–Saturday dramas, the Top 3 highest ratings so far are:
1. The Fiery Priest – 18.4%
2. The Red Sleeve – 17.4%
3. Big Mouth – 13.7%
So far, no MBC Friday–Saturday drama has surpassed the 20% rating mark, often referred to as the network’s “unbreakable barrier.” With two of Korea’s biggest stars joining forces, many viewers are curious whether Perfect Crown will finally break that record when it premieres on April 10.
Meanwhile, Byeon Woo Seok, Yoo Soo Bin, and Lee Yeon, the leading cast of the new MBC drama ‘Perfect Crown‘, will guest on ‘IU’s Palette‘.
