Park Yoochun Receives Birthday Support Despite Drug & Sex Scandal: Twisted Love of Fans
Despite causing various controversies, singer Park Yoochun continues to receive strong support from his fandom.
According to SNS platform X (formerly Twitter), numerous domestic and international fans recently posted under the hashtag “Yoochun_A_Happy_Birthday” to celebrate Park Yoochun’s birthday on June 4. Fans shared past photos and videos of him, along with various birthday content.
The hashtag garnered over 20,000 posts on the day, and it even trended on X, demonstrating the ongoing love and interest from his fandom.
Park Yoochun has been embroiled in scandals since 2016, including sexual misconduct and drug use allegations. In 2019, he was charged with methamphetamine use and received a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. At a press conference, he had even stated, “If I did drugs, I would retire from the entertainment industry.”
It was later confirmed that Park Yoochun had indeed used drugs. Following this, disputes with his agency surfaced, making his domestic activities uncertain. Additionally, in December last year, Park Yoochun’s name appeared on the National Tax Service’s list of habitual tax delinquents, owing approximately 490 million KRW (approx 358,000 USD) in taxes, reigniting controversy.
Regarding this “twisted love” of fans for celebrities that have committed various misconducts both legally and morally, Cultural critic Kim Heon-sik commented, “If fans ignore, protect, and support such behavior, it results in moral hazard, leading to the recurrence of such criminal incidents.”
