The relationship between celebrities and their managers is inherently close—built on deep trust and constant proximity. With stars being public figures, managers often gain access to personal, even intimate, aspects of their lives. But when that trust breaks, the consequences can be explosive. The escalating legal dispute between Park Na-rae and her former manager has now cast a spotlight on similar past incidents involving betrayal, fraud, and even threats from former managers in the Korean entertainment industry.
Park Na-rae is currently entangled in a bitter legal confrontation involving her former manager. The ex-manager has accused her of workplace harassment, verbal abuse, intentional injury, unpaid business expenses, and even illegal medical practices allegedly carried out by a non-professional.
The accusations include shocking claims: being on-call 24/7, running errands, cleaning up after parties, and being forced to attend drinking sessions. The ex-manager also alleged being injured by a glass thrown by Park and subjected to verbal abuse for not drinking. There’s even a claim involving a one-person agency under Park Na-rae’s mother’s name operating without registration, and suspicions surrounding unauthorized medical procedures conducted by an unlicensed individual.

In response, Park Na-rae’s side announced intentions to sue the ex-manager for embezzling company funds. Regarding the allegation that her ex-boyfriend was registered as an employee and received ₩44 million in wages, they refuted it as “false information,” asserting that the payment was made through normal procedures.
Amid public backlash, Park Na-rae has stepped down from all ongoing broadcasts. With both sides presenting contrasting accounts, the case awaits legal judgment. As the media storm unfolds, the entertainment industry is revisiting other star-manager conflict cases that once shook the public.
Just last month, singer Sung Si-kyung revealed that he too suffered financial damage due to a long-time manager. Manager A, who had handled Sung’s events, broadcasts, and advertisements, was found to have embezzled funds.

The betrayal hit harder as A was not just a professional aide but like family. Despite this, the case ended without prosecution. The police explained, “Sung Si-kyung did not wish to pursue charges, and the third-party complainant also lacked accurate information, making it difficult to proceed with the investigation.”
Sung’s side stated they preferred a peaceful resolution, emphasizing the priority of recovering financial losses over legal retribution. Since then, the singer has resumed his career, performing at festivals and releasing OSTs and digital content.
Comedian Kim Mi-ryeo previously opened up about being “shook” by her manager during her peak years. She confessed on a YouTube variety show that her earnings were significantly siphoned off, saying, “I could’ve earned more, but the managers took a lot.”

She also revealed disturbing claims of miscommunication between her manager and colleagues that harmed her professional relationships. More alarmingly, she discovered that her manager had kept private photos taken during a consultation for breast reduction surgery. She now suspects those could have been used for blackmail, deepening the betrayal.
Singer Park Sang-min is another victim of managerial fraud. On a YouTube broadcast, he disclosed that the total financial damage was in the nine-digit range in KRW. His former manager allegedly forged Park’s and his wife’s seals to sign contracts for luxury cars, later selling them as illegal vehicles.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office indicted the manager in 2012 on charges of fraud and forgery. While the official damage was around ₩1 billion, interest and related costs meant Park likely lost far more.
