Businessman Kang Jong Hyun is reportedly under investigation as a suspect.
According to JTBC, the Financial Investigation Division 2 of Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office summoned Kang Jong Hyun, known as the real owner of the virtual assets service provider Bithumb, for investigation on January 9th.
Prosecutors continue to investigate Kang Jong Hyun on charges of disrupting the capital market through stock price manipulation and siphoning off company money.
Following the seizure and search of Bithumb-related companies, the investigation was expanded to company executives and employees. In December last year, executives of Bithumb’s largest shareholder Vidente were indicted on charges of destroying and concealing evidence.
After summoning Kang Ji Yeon, Kang Jong Hyun’s younger sister and CEO of Vidente, for questioning last week, the prosecution plans to focus on investigating the allegations that Kang Jong Hyun and Kang Ji Yeon spread false information about Bithumb to manipulate the stock price, stole company money, and created slush funds through the frequent issuance of convertible bonds.
After Park Min Young and Kang Jong Hyun’s dating rumor broke out, the actress’s sister was found to have been registered as an outside director of Inbiogen. Park Min Young’s agency also confirmed the two’s breakup and emphasized that the actress had never received financial support from Kang Jong Hyun.
