Actress Park Min-young, known for her roles in popular K-dramas, has embarked on a new journey through variety TV. However, her latest venture, tvN’s Perfect Glow, premiered to underwhelming ratings just 1.1% for its first episode on November 8 raising concerns about her recent career trajectory.

Perfect Glow follows Ra Mi-ran and Park Min-young, alongside top Korean beauty professionals, as they open a K-beauty salon called Danjang in the heart of Manhattan, New York. The show aims to showcase the power of Korean beauty techniques to a global audience. With fans anticipating new and refreshing sides of the stars, expectations were high. However, the tepid viewership from the premiere has cast a shadow over the show’s future.

All eyes are now on how Park Min-young will shine in upcoming episodes. Episode 2, airing on November 13, will depict the team’s second day of business with renewed confidence. LeoJ candidly reflects on their first day: “Eating felt like a luxury I was too anxious to eat.” His comments spark a maternal response from Ra Mi-ran, who vows to make sure everyone gets to eat and reorganizes the work schedule for efficiency. Yet, with customer volume doubling and unexpected challenges arising, Danjang faces a full-blown crisis.

Adding a touch of K-pop to the episode, a former global idol trainee named Kelly visits the salon. Familiar with Korean culture, she immediately recognizes Park Min-young and excitedly says, “I know you! I loved What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim.” Park responds with playful humor, saying, “Secretary Kim is now managing Danjang,” bringing laughter to the scene.

Park Min-young had recently returned to the screen after a 1 year and 7-month hiatus with TV Chosun’s drama Confidence Queen, which wrapped up last month. Unfortunately, that project too recorded viewership in the 0–1% range, ending with lackluster results.

With two back-to-back low-performing projects, concerns are rising about Park Min-young’s direction in the ever-competitive entertainment industry. Fans and industry watchers alike are hopeful that Perfect Glow will turn things around in the episodes to come.
