“Parasyte: The Grey” director Yeon Sang-ho’s confidence “Fans of the original will also be satisfied”

Director Yeon Sang-ho has returned with "Parasyte: The Grey"

On the morning of March 26th, the press conference of “Parasyte: The Grey” was held at Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Actors Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwan, Lee Jung-hyun, Kwon Hae-hyo, Kim In-kwon, director Yeon Sang-ho and writer Ryu Yong-jae attended the event, sharing various stories about the work.

“Parasyte: The Grey” is a Netflix series about a group of mysterious parasitic creatures that fall from outer space and begin hosting humans, killing them and creating a faction of their own. It is based on the manga series “Parasyte” by Hitoshi Iwaaki.

Director Yeon Sang-ho said, “I originally worked as an animation director, and for people who study animation, the original work is like a bible. When you have a favorite comic, you get immersed in it, and I wondered what it would be like in a different world outside of this comic. I thought about what would happen if ‘Parasyte’ occurred not in Japan, but in Korea. I conveyed the idea to the original author and received a response to try it freely, and that’s how this work began.”

He emphasized, “This work is completely separate from the content of the original. In fact, the events in the original are set as ongoing events that are currently happening in Japan. This work is a story about coexistence.”

Director Yeon added, “The works I have done so far have been my originals. ‘Parasyte: The Grey’ is a work I worked on as a ‘successful fan’.” He also expressed confidence that even fans of the original would be satisfied.

Netflix’s series “Parasyte: The Grey” will be released on April 5th.
