On March 4, the Chinese entertainment industry was shaken by the sudden arrest of Darren Wang in Taiwan on suspicion of attempted murder. The actor, along with an accomplice – his affluent friend, surnamed Du – was taken into custody and brought to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for questioning. Reports suggest that Wang instructed Du to assault a ride-hailing driver and a vehicle dispatcher, leaving both victims severely injured and in critical condition at the hospital.
The cause of Darren Wang’s explosive outrage? According to China Times, he had booked a luxury vehicle for airport pickup but lost his temper after struggling to open the Tesla’s door. Enraged and convinced the driver had deliberately taken a detour to delay him, Wang smashed the car window in frustration, triggering a heated argument that quickly turned physical.
Instead of letting the matter rest, Wang escalated the situation further after returning home. He ordered Du to locate the driver and dispatcher and take revenge on his behalf. Acting on Wang’s command, Du violently attacked both victims, even recording videos and taking photos to report back. What’s more shocking, Wang later boasted in a group chat about having his subordinate “deal with” those who had angered him.
Ironically, this crime only came to light because of an entirely separate investigation into Wang’s alleged military service evasion. While combing through his phone for evidence, authorities uncovered disturbing footage of the brutal attack, along with incriminating messages proving his direct involvement. The police have since tracked down the victims and are expanding their investigation.
The revelation of Wang’s motive has triggered a wave of public outrage. Netizens slammed his callous disregard for human life, mocking his arrogance with remarks like, “He’d rather sit behind bars than serve in the military.” Wang was originally scheduled to enlist on March 9.
This is the second time in weeks that Wang has found himself in legal trouble. Previously investigated for dodging military service, where he barely avoided criminal charges, he now faces an even graver situation.
