Opposite Reactions To Drama Cameos: ‘Strong Girl Nam-soon’ Park-Park Couple VS ‘My Dearest’ Haha & Yoo Jae-suk

While Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik created hot topics, “Hangout with You” cast’s appearance was considered excessive

The new episode of JTBC’s Sat-Sun drama “Strong Girl Nam-soon” released on October 15th reportedly reached a new highest viewer rating of 8.0%. In fact, this achievement was greatly contributed by the cameo appearance of Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik, the lead actors in “Strong Girl Bong-soon”, the first season in the “Strong Girl” series.

The two met viewers again as couple Do Bong-soon and Ahn Min-hyuk and successfully connected the “Strong Girl” worldview. In the episode, Do Bong-soon and Ahn Min-hyuk greet their relative Gil Joong-gan (Kim Hae-sook) at the police station. Do Bong-soon is still busy punishing villains, while Ahn Min-hyuk raises their children and runs after Do Bong-soon whenever she gets in trouble.

Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik’s cameo appearances helped connect the two dramas of the same series and make viewers look forward to a spinoff.

On the other hand, the appearance of “Hangout with You” members in MBC’s drama “My Dearest” received negative feedback.

The broadcast of “Hangout with You” that followed the new “My Dearest” episode showed the members acting on the set. At first, Yoo Jae-suk and Haha showed confidence, saying they already had experience with historical dramas. Unlike the pleasant atmosphere before filming, Yoo Jae-suk and Haha faced a crisis as they began acting. However, they still managed to receive an OK sign from the director.

The drama still performed well and achieved good ratings. However, the problem is that this cameo appearance was not very helpful for the development of “My Dearest”. Instead, they even disrupt the flow of the well-written plot.

In particular, viewers pointed out that the broadcast on October 15th focused on the hardships that Gil-chae (Ahn Eun-jin) faced as she was suddenly taken prisoner by the Qing Dynasty so the appearance of Haha and Yoo Jae-suk as the slaves was considered “out of place”.

Some people expressed disappointment, saying the cameo appearance of comedians in the middle of a historical tragedy and the heartbroken fate of the two lovers with Haha’s overly long lines were unnatural enough to break their immersion.
