One of the most striking moments came when she reflected on how differently her son was treated in the U.S. “I was told that Americans are more used to seeing kids like Min out and about,” she said. “People didn’t say anything or try to stop him. He seemed really happy and relaxed, and that made me feel comfortable too.”
She went on to express her surprise at the openness she observed: “I noticed that children with developmental disabilities in the U.S. seem so bright. No one’s telling them ‘don’t do this’ or ‘don’t do that.’ They just looked so at ease.”
Oh Yoon Ah’s candid observations touched many viewers, especially those familiar with the challenges of raising children with special needs in more conservative or restrictive environments.
The actress, who married a non-celebrity five years her senior in 2007 and gave birth to Min the same year, has been raising him as a single mother since her divorce in 2015.
