A wave of playful controversy has gone viral after multiple past comments from NMIXX members about fans’ hygiene resurfaced right around the time the group launched a line of perfume merchandise.

Among many K-pop groups who’ve made humorous or light-hearted remarks about fan cleanliness, NMIXX is gaining the most viral attention for doing it repeatedly and directly.

The most well-known example came from Sullyoon, who didn’t hold back in her Bubble messages. She sternly emphasized that showering isn’t optional:

Sullyoon: “Not sure if you’re serious or not, but there is no such thing as a choice for not washing up. Washing up is a basic routine!!”
Fan: “I’ll just spray perfume and not wash up…”
Sullyoon: “Please, just wash up!”

Her firm stance left a lasting impression. But she wasn’t the only one in the group to chime in.

Member Kyujin also urged fans to make sure they showered before attending a fan meeting, leading to laughter among the group and the fandom alike. While clearly intended with humor, the messages sparked a larger conversation online about idols encouraging personal hygiene.

Now, the topic has gone viral again this time linked to NMIXX’s newly released world tour merchandise, which includes two types of branded perfume. Though K-pop groups have sold perfume before, many fans couldn’t help but connect the dots, joking that the launch was inspired by the group’s previous hygiene reminders.

Social media erupted with memes, lighthearted theories, and humorous reactions tying the perfume drop to the group’s earlier comments. Some fans laughed it off as brilliant marketing, while others debated whether it crossed a line—even if meant in jest.
