“NewJeans’s Junior” ILLIT Makes Better Debut Than “BLACKPINK’s Junior” BABYMONSTER

The debut song “Magnetic” of HYBE’s new girl group ILLIT is rising quickly on music charts after three days of its release

On March 25th, HYBE’s new girl group ILLIT finally made their debut with the EP Super Real Me and “Magnetic” music video. Formed through the survival show “R U Next”, ILLIT has five members, including Wonhee, Minju, Yunah, Iroha and Moka. The group pursues a refreshing concept with a mysterious and magical vibe.

As a group from HYBE, both the music and concepts for the group were prepared carefully. ILLIT’s debut song is arousing keen interest after three days of their debut. According to the recent update, ILLIT already sold 200,000 copies of their debut album on Hanteo.

Becoming the first K-pop girl group to enter Spotify Global on the first day after releasing their debut album, ILLIT has gained 2.1 million streams and rose 110 spots to No.50 on the chart. This is considered a remarkable achievement of a new girl group that has just debuted for less than a week. Their debut song “Magnetic” has become viral on social media ever since the group released their highlight medley.

In addition, “Magnetic” MV also earned 14 million views within only 2 days. While YouTube views of K-pop MVs are decreasing, ILLIT is doing well on this platform. As the video is currently placing No.2 on YouTube Korea Trending list, the song seems to be well-received among the public.

The performance of “Magnetic” on music chart is also showing good signs. On the morning of March 28th, the song placed No.5 on Bugs, No.41 on Genie, No.48 on Melon and No.38 on FLO. It also entered Top 100 Daily rankings of all music charts in iChart. With the upcoming promotion, ILLIT is expected to rise higher.

However, the group also faced negative reviews about the similarities in concepts with NewJeans. Both groups have 5 members and their ages are also similar, making them look like twins. Despite being under the same company HYBE, NewJeans fans are complaining about this.

Looking at ILLIT’s smooth start, many people brought up the disappointing debut of BLACKPINK’s junior group BABYMONSTER. Accordingly, “Batter Up” was an old hip-hop song with little promotion so the song dropped out of music charts quickly after its release. The only thing that BABYMONSTER won over ILLIT was their first-day views on YouTube, which was 22.5 million. However, “Batter Up” was not as impressive as ILLIT’s debut song.

Music fans are looking forward to the two groups’ upcoming competition as BABYMONSTER will make their comeback on April 1st.
