NewJeans Surges on MelOn Top 100 Chart in 1 Hour, but BTS’s RM Fails to Enter?

Amid the ongoing HYBE-ADOR conflict, NewJeans ranks high with their new song while BTS’s RM’s release is not doing well.

Released at 1 PM (KST) on May 24, NewJeans‘ double single title track “How Sweet” entered the Melon Top 100 chart at 7th place by 2 PM, just 1 hour after its release. The pre-release track “Bubble Gum,” also released that day, ranked 14th. Additionally, “How Sweet” recorded the highest number of listeners in an hour for a K-pop idol song released this year on Melon.

Considering that NewJeans released the song at 1 PM on a Friday, a time when there are relatively fewer users compared to the more popular 6 PM slot, this achievement indicates significant anticipation for their comeback.

With the release of the new songs, NewJeans’ “Hype Boy” and “ETA” both rose two places on the Melon Top 100 to 25th and 41st, respectively. Other songs like “Super Shy,” “Ditto,” “Attention,” and “OMG” also remained within the top 100.

In contrast, BTS’s RM, who also released new music at 1 PM on the same day, failed to enter the Top 100.

Particularly, RM released his second solo album “Right Place, Wrong Person” that day. Despite the album containing 11 tracks worked on before his enlistment, none made it to the Top 100.

Meanwhile, the music video for NewJeans’ “How Sweet” will be released at 4 PM, and NewJeans will continue their comeback activities starting with their appearance on KBS2’s “Music Bank” later that day.
