NewJeans’ Record Surpassed by Virtual Idol Group?

PLAVE, a virtual idol group, has entered Melon’s “Billions Club” with the shortest record in history.

“Melon’s Hall of Fame” is divided into the “Millions Album” category, celebrating albums that have achieved over 1 million streams within 24 hours of release, and the “Billions Club” category, honoring artists who have reached over 1 billion streams since their debut.

On July 17, PLAVE achieved 1,003,620,000 streams for all their released songs, earning a spot in Melon’s “Billions Club.” As of July 2024, Melon services approximately 3 million artists, and only 109 artists have reached the milestone of 1 billion streams.

PLAVE’s entry into the Billions Club came just 494 days after their debut on March 12, 2023, breaking the previous record held by NewJeans, who achieved this in 498 days.

Previously, PLAVE also stood out in Melon’s 2024 mid-year summary in the Millions Album category. Their mini-album “ASTERUM: 134-1” recorded the highest streaming numbers among the top albums of the first half of the year. The title track “WAY 4 LUV” reached 104 million streams, the highest among all artist releases in the first half of 2024.

This achievement is significant as all 16 songs PLAVE has released since their debut were written and composed by the members themselves.

In February, PLAVE’s “ASTERUM: 134-1” made them the first virtual idol group to win 1st place on a terrestrial music show. Their first solo concert proved their popularity, with over 70,000 fans logging in simultaneously during the presale ticket opening. PLAVE is blazing a trail as a new type of idol, making unprecedented achievements and writing a new chapter in the K-pop scene.
