NewJeans overshadow Jamboree Kpop Concert’s controversies with exciting stage

Amid controversies of forced performance and unpaid appearance fee, NewJeans excellently concluded the 1st part of Jamboree Kpop Concert.

The 2023 World Scout Jamboree’s “Kpop Super Live”, hereinafter referred to as the “Jamboree Kpop Concert”, took place on the after of August 11th at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Korea. The event was also broadcast live on KBS 2TV.

During this event, NewJeans became the main character for the first part of the ending stage, presenting “ETA” as their first song. Despite the rain pouring down again as the sun set, New Jeans delivered their characteristic dynamic performance, at the same time engaging with the audience by waving hands and exchanging greetings.

After “ETA”, NewJeans drew cheers from the audience and further heightened the crowd’s excitement before performing the highly-anticipated hit “Hype Boy”.

Meanwhile, a photo taken during NewJeans’ rehearsal for the Jamboree Kpop Concert was circulated online and gained attention earlier in the afternoon. In this photo, NewJeans members appeared fatigued, with Hanni showing a particularly tired expression.

This sparked discussions about whether NewJeans was forced to attend the event, especially in consideration of various ongoing controversies, which range from sudden changes in scheduling, venue, and artist lineup, to the organizer avoiding to mention payment.

As a result, online users expressed sympathy and encouragement for NewJeans, leaving comments such as “It’s so unfortunate” and “Seeing them rehearsing in the rain is truly pitiful.” Despite these concerns and controversies, however, NewJeans’ performance, which was filled with energy and enthusiasm, exceeded expectations.
