NewJeans’ fandom has become the subject of online ridicule after a recent fan-led action sparked backlash from Korean netizens, following news that member Danielle was removed from the company.
According to posts circulating in online communities, a portion of the fandom attempted to mobilize fans to directly contact South Korea’s president and the Blue House. The effort reportedly encouraged Korean fans to send faxes, while international fans were urged to mention or direct-message the president on social media, calling for government involvement in what they described as unfair treatment of the idol.
A protest message shared online called on fans to “use all available means” to expose alleged wrongdoing by HYBE and Bang Si-hyuk, setting a protest period from late December to early January. Screenshots of the message quickly spread, drawing widespread criticism.
Korean netizens reacted sharply, questioning the logic of involving state leaders in a dispute rooted in the entertainment industry. Many argued that idol management issues and contract-related conflicts fall entirely outside the scope of presidential or governmental responsibility.

Online reactions ranged from disbelief to frustration, with commenters pointing out that national leaders are occupied with far more pressing matters. Others described the move as excessive and inappropriate, suggesting it crossed a line between fan advocacy and public disruption.
Some observers also warned that such actions could backfire, potentially damaging NewJeans’ public image rather than helping the group. They argued that drawing negative attention through extreme measures may undermine sympathy for the fandom’s concerns.
As the debate continues, the incident has reignited discussion about fan boundaries, effective advocacy, and the consequences of escalating entertainment disputes into the public and political sphere.
