NewJeans’ collaboration with “Powerpuff Girls” is a hit? Explosive response

The new MV for NewJeans’ new song, “New Jeans”, which collaborates with “Powerpuff Girls”, is receiving a hot response.

Ahead of the release of their mini 2nd album on July 21st, NewJeans will release a pre-release single, “Super Shy”, at 1 PM (KST) on July 7th. The girl group, who has shown a natural and sophisticated sensibility since their debut, is expected to showcase their unique team color without filter in this album.

In addition to “Super Shy”, NewJeans also dropped another pre-release single, “New Jeans”. “New Jeans” stands out with its unique composition that alternates between UK garage rhythm and Jersey club rhythm, as well as creative lyrics that make use of the team name. Prior to the audio release, an MV for the song was unveiled at midnight on July 7th, gaining huge attention due to it being a collaboration with Cartoon Network’s “Powerpuff Girls”.

So far, the 3 minute and 30-second video has surpassed 2.67 million views in 9 hours, proving its hot popularity.

It has also received explosive responses, and below are some comments from netizens:

  • The characters are so cute
  • This concept is a perfect match
  • It’s such a visually appealing MV created by incorporating the members into Powerpuff Girls characters.
  • If a b-side track is already this good, I can’t wait to hear the other songs.

Since their debut last year, NewJeans has achieved consecutive successes with songs like “Attention”, “Hype boy”, “Cookie”, “Ditto”, and “OMG”, establishing themselves as a hot girl group in Korea. Among the major domestic music streaming sites, Melon, Genie, and Bugs, four of New Jeans’ released songs (“Hype boy”, “Attention”, “Ditto”, “OMG”) are currently in the top 20 of the daily charts (as of July 4th).

NewJeans’ popularity is spreading overseas as well. In the recent Billboard Global 200 chart (as of July 8th), “OMG” rose to 113th place and “Ditto” to 188th place.

As NewJeans continues to move forward without stopping, attention is now focused on whether they can maintain their position as a “digital monster” with their upcoming mini 2nd album “Get Up”.
