Netizens react to “Squid Game 2” casting Im Si Wan & Kang Ha Neul, “Aren’t they the new employees in ‘Misaeng’?”

Fans of the drama “Misaeng” show enthusiastic responses to the news of Im Si Wan and Kang Ha Neul’s appearance in “Squid Game 2”.

At the Global Fan Event “Tudum” held in Brazil on June 17th (local time), Netflix unveiled the casting lineup for “Squid Game Season 2”, saying “Actors Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dong Geun and Im Si Wan were cast in Season 2 of ‘Squid Game’.” However, their specific roles, settings, and scenes in the drama have not been disclosed.

The four will join actors Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Gong Yoo and Wi Ha Joon, who appeared in Season 1, in the new season.

Amid the explosive reaction to the confirmation of a star-studded cast lineup, drama fans also pay particular attention to the casting of Im Si Wan and Kang Ha Neul.

It is because the two appeared in tvN’s series “Misaeng: Incomplete Life” together in the past.

“Misaeng” is about Jang Geu Rae (Im Si Wan) getting thrown into the harsh reality as he failed to join the baduk professional team. In this drama, Im Si Wan and Kang Ha Neul portrayed newcomers in society who meet as new employees in a company and showcased their personal characteristics.

Netizens reacted, “Did they invest in baekgi coins?”, “Han Seok Yool (Byun Yo Han) must have seduced them to join the survival game”, “They suit the characters for sure”, “Isn’t it an extended version of ‘Misaeng’?”, etc. Some even said that it was a “realistic casting”.

Meanwhile, “Squid Game 2”, which is keeping not only domestic fans but also overseas viewers waiting, is in production with an aim to premiere in 2024. The filming is expected to begin in the second half of this year.
