Netizens Defend NMIXX from Suspicion of Their High Album Sales

A recent post on the online community Pann questions NMIXX’s achievements in their latest comeback.

On July 11, NMIXX made their comeback with the single album “A Midsummer NMIXX’s Dream” featuring the title track “Party O’Clock.”

On July 13, a post published on the online community Pann titled “The Surprising Reason for NMIXX Album Sales” gained much attention. The writer of the post suspects the high physical album sales NMIXX achieved this comeback.

The post reads:

“NMIXX’s album sales after 2 days: 790,000 copies (currently 900,000 copies)

As you can see, selling 900,000 copies is an outstanding achievement, securing a rank higher than No.9 in the highest first-week album sales for female artists of all time.

Songs from albums with sales exceeding 700,000 copies have reached high rankings on Melon (or have achieved great success in international music charts).

However, NMIXX’s domestic digital performance cannot be considered excellent.

When comparing the number of fans on Melon, IVE has more than 80,000, NewJeans, aespa, (G)I-DLE, and BLACKPINK all have over 100,000 fans, but NMIXX has approximately 25,000 fans.

This is not the power of domestic fans or the general public. In such cases, it is common to assume that NMIXX has a large number of international fans.

But NMIXX new song’s first-day global Spotify streaming count is about 270,000.

NewJeans’ Super Shy: 2.4 million on the first day

aespa’s Spicy: 1.14 million on the first day

IVE’s Kitsch: 1.04 million, I Am: 1.38 million

LE SSERAFIM’s Unforgiven: 1.55 million

If you search, you will find that 4th gen idol groups consistently surpass one million streams on the first day of global platforms.

But 270,000…? It’s a relatively much smaller number.

NMIXX only recorded 9,000 viewers for their comeback show…

In summary, when compared to other groups with similar album sales:

NMIXX’s domestic fandom is significantly smaller.

The international fandom is also significantly smaller.

So the question remains, who bought all those albums?

Even if there is a high album inflation, other boy groups have many indicators that show the size of their fandom. Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok followers are representative.

From that, it can be inferred that the fandom has grown globally, but in the case of NMIXX, there is no signal regarding the international fandom, and only the album sales numbers are exceptionally high, which feels somewhat weird.

Comparing the MVs is difficult since the views on YouTube are promotionally driven, but if we must compare, the number of likes is roughly similar to the fandom power.

NMIXX’s title track has 240,000 likes, and Roller Coaster has 410,000 likes.

Many girl groups that sell over 700,000 albums usually have MVs with over one million likes. It’s not accurate, but it’s worth mentioning as a reference.”

  • “So, you’re saying they did sajaegi? (t/n: companies manipulating chart rankings) Sorry, but JYP is a listed company, so they can’t do sajaegi ^^ This post is just meant to show how great NMIXX is. They sold a lot of albums this time, so are you jealous?”
  • “Fans often bulk buy the albums. Is it necessary to nitpick about this? Especially since there are big spenders from China who buy a lot.”
  • “JYP is a listed company, so sajaegi is impossible. Do you even know that sajaegi would be grounds for delisting?”
  • “Why are you suspicious of a popular girl group selling many albums? Honestly, whether it’s NMIXX or anyone else, they shouldn’t be underestimated.”
  • “This post is hilarious. Anyway, JYP is a company that can’t do sajaegi. You are just making sure everyone knows NMIXX sold a lot of albums. Thank you ^^”
