On August 20, MBC’s variety show Radio Star (Episode 928) will feature the special “An Calm Man” edition, with guests including Lee Sedol, Kim Hee-chul, Chimchakman, and “Culinary Class War” winner chef Kwon Sung-joon. The episode promises sharp humor and witty banter from all participants.

During the broadcast, Kwon Sung-joon revealed that he was recently named in Forbes’ “30 Under 30 Asia 2025” list. “It felt surreal to see my name next to Cha Eun-woo and Stray Kids,” he admitted, drawing admiration from the audience.
Kwon Sung-joon rose to fame through his Netflix series Culinary Class War, where he competed as the “Black Spoon” chef Napoli Mafia. Known for his outstanding culinary skills and strategic thinking, he ultimately won first place. Reflecting on his preparation, he shared, “Before filming, I watched Physical 100 over 20 times. I can’t survive without thorough analysis.”

He also recalled a memorable 1-on-1 Black vs. White showdown against chef Fabri, a “White Spoon” competitor. Both chefs specialized in Italian cuisine, but the challenge took a twist when blind ingredients included fermented skate, leaving them both surprised. Kwon Sung-joon turned the ingredient into a creative risotto, securing his victory and advancing to the next round. “I felt the variety gods were on my side,” he joked, noting that he even calculated camera angles for favorable edits.

Despite his win, Kwon Sung-joon admitted, “Sometimes I feel a bit overlooked when Edward Lee, the runner-up, gets attention in broadcasting and advertising. But in this field, I know I’m the top chef.”
Adding to his versatility, Kwon Sung-joon surprised the audience with his singing skills. Having previously appeared on MBC’s King of Mask Singer, he performed the Italian aria Il Mondo, impressing the panel with both his stage presence and vocal ability.
Kwon Sung-joon concluded by sharing his future goals: “I want to showcase my colors not only in cooking but also in variety entertainment.” Fans can catch his performance and charm on Radio Star, airing Wednesday, August 20, at 10:30 PM KST.
