On the June 21 broadcast of JTBC’s variety show Please Take Care of My Refrigerator Since 2014, actors Namkoong Min and Kim Dae Myung appeared as guests.

During the episode, Namkoong Min shared that he had been a longtime fan of the program.

“I’ve always enjoyed watching Please Take Care of My Refrigerator. I love food and have a lot of respect for chefs, so hearing that I would get to meet eight of them in one place made me nervous,” he said.

As Kim Dae Myung enthusiastically expressed his admiration for the chefs, Namkoong Min jokingly interrupted, saying, “Shouldn’t there be a time limit for comments?” He then added, “I could talk even longer than that, but I held back for the sake of a smooth broadcast,” drawing laughter from everyone.

The actor also spoke about his upcoming KBS2 weekend drama The Husband, which is currently filming.

“In the drama, I play a man who loses his wife, while Kim Dae Myung plays the person who kidnaps her,” Namkoong Min explained. “He’s a very scary character. Unfortunately, the drama will air in the same time slot as Please Take Care of My Refrigerator,” he joked.

When Kim Sung Joo pointed out that Namkoong Min had already won Grand Prizes at the SBS and MBC Drama Awards for Hot Stove League, The Veil, and My Dearest, and could complete a broadcasting network “Grand Slam” with a KBS award, the actor laughed and replied, “I didn’t choose a KBS project for that reason.” He added, “But if they decide to give me one, I’m always ready to accept it gratefully.”

The biggest topic of discussion during the show was the remarkable physical transformation Namkoong Min underwent for the drama The Veil.

Chef Choi Hyun Seok expressed his amazement, saying, “It looked like you had replaced your entire back. Your body got so much bigger.”

Ahn Jung Hwan also reacted with surprise, commenting, “You looked like a stingray. It’s not easy to build that kind of triangular physique.”

Choi Hyun Seok went even further, comparing Namkoong Min’s appearance at the time to action stars Ma Dong Seok and Kim Dong Hyun.

Responding to the compliments, Namkoong Min explained his approach to acting.

“When I prepare for a role, I always start with the physical appearance,” he said. “For The Veil, I was playing the National Intelligence Service’s top field agent. I felt that instead of looking lean, he needed a body that could overpower an opponent instantly.”

He then revealed the intense routine behind the transformation.

“I worked out for three hours every day and ate six meals a day,” he shared. “My normal weight is around 67 kilograms, but I increased it to 84 kilograms for the role.”

Despite the demanding process, Namkoong Min said he never viewed it as a burden.

“Because it’s my profession, I didn’t think of it as something difficult. I approached it with passion and genuinely enjoyed the challenge,” he said.
