On March 3, through actress Hwang Bo Ra’s YouTube channel, Nam Ji Hyun shared updates about her current life after becoming a barre instructor. During the candid conversation, she reflected on the hardships she faced while transitioning from idol to actress.
Nam Ji Hyun debuted in 2009 as the leader of 4Minute and rose to fame with hit songs such as “Hot Issue,” “Muzik,” “Mirror Mirror,” “Crazy,” and “What’s Your Name?” After the group disbanded, she pursued an acting career.
While recalling her difficult past, Nam Ji Hyun asked Hwang Bo Ra, “Unnie, did directors ever curse at you back then?” Hwang responded, “There were a lot of people who swore.”
Nam Ji Hyun then revealed a particularly hurtful incident from her first drama shoot. “It was my first drama during my 4Minute days, and the camera director said, ‘Hey, you ugly btch, stand in front.’”
She continued, “I was so bright and thought, ‘I have to get through this with the power of positivity,’ so I said, ‘Ugly btch coming through,’ and went forward. Then he said, ‘Look at that btch.’ After it ended, he apologized. He said he didn’t know I was from 4Minute and thought I was just a rookie actress. He claimed he was trying to build my courage.”
