On December 3, Netflix confirmed that Nagano Mei will star in the 2026 original film My Crazy Feminist Girlfriend, based on the Korean novel of the same name by author Min Ji Hyung.

The film is described as a romantic comedy about a tumultuous relationship with a fierce, unapologetic woman who fights equally for both love and rights. It will be directed by Kobayashi Keiichi, known for his work on Love Is Light and Shinmai Kisha Torokko: Watashi ga Yaraneba Dare ga Yaru!.

Author Min Ji Hyung expressed deep gratitude: “To the Netflix producers who chose this work, Director Kobayashi who treated the original work’s message with such care, and Nagano Mei for breathing new life into ‘her’ thank you sincerely.”

According to reports from Josei Jishin on December 2, Nagano will officially begin filming in mid-December, marking her return to acting. Netflix reportedly offered her the role before the cheating rumors surfaced and chose not to withdraw the offer even after the controversy.

Previously, Nagano Mei became embroiled in controversy in April after being suspected of having an affair with married actor Tanaka Kei, as reported by Shūkan Bunshun. Then in September, Shūkan Bunshun reported on an alleged relationship between actor Sakaguchi Kentaro and Nagano Mei, suggesting that the two were romantically involved while Sakaguchi was living with another woman.

Despite her agency Stardust Promotion denying the affair with Tanaka, Nagano voluntarily stepped down from her upcoming role in NHK’s drama Toyotomi Kyodai!. She also suffered major commercial losses, with over 10 advertising contracts terminated in the wake of the scandal.
