Most viral dances of each KPOP generation: TWICE is a legend, netizens believe MOMOLAND should replace BLACKPINK

Many people argued that BLACKPINK’s “DDU-DU DDU-DU” dance was not as viral as MOMOLAND’s “Boom Boom” dance.

Choreography is one of the most important parts of KPOP’s performances. KPOP has gone through 4 generations, and in each era, many legendary dances have been created and caused huge crazes not only in Korea but also all over the world.

Korean netizens recently picked out 2 most viral girl group dances of each KPOP generation. These girl groups are the most famous of their generation with songs that made big hits, causing people to follow their dances. Their choreographies were chosen as “national dances”, with “killing parts” that had great influences on KPOP fans and made people remember the song.

1st Generation

I’m Your Girl – S.E.S (1997)
Eternal Love – Fin.K.L (2000)

2nd Generation

Tell Me – Wonder Girls (2007)
Gee – SNSD (2009)

3rd Generation

Cheer Up – TWICE (2016)
DDU-DU DDU-DU – BLACKPINK (2018)

4th Generation

Wannabe – ITZY (2020)
Next Level – aespa (2021)

Regarding this list of 8 dances above, netizens expressed mixed opinions. Many people agreed that these are the most legendary KPOP choreographies of each era. However, others also raised opposite ideas. They mentioned KARA’s hip-shaking dance in “Mister” as well as 2NE1’s “I’m The Best” and T-ARA’s “Roly Poly” choreographies.

Although some people think BLACKPINK‘s shooting choreography is hot, it has yet to gain the same level of popularity as MOMOLAND‘s choreography in the song Boom Boom. ITZY‘s WANNABE choreography was also deemed unworthy of the top spot in Gen 4 when compared to STAYC‘s song ASAP.

STAYC also had a successful year when the song ASAP was especially loved by Korean fans

Some comments:

  • DDU-DU’s choreography DDU-DU is not as famous as Boom Boom.
  • Should have added KARA’s Mister.  But it must be admitted that Gen 2 has too much legendary choreography.
  • In terms of popularity, Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar must be added!
  • ITZY’s Wannabe is only popular internationally, but it’s not as hot in Korea as ASAP.
  • The 2nd generation has a lot of popular dances with the public.  As for the third generation, TWICE’s Cheer Up is still the most popular.
  • Anyway, there’s no denying that Tell Me and Gee are legendary!
