In a candid interview held on December 19 at a café in Seoul’s Jongno District, Moon Ga-young spoke about her new film Once We Were Us, a Korean remake of the Chinese movie Us and Them. The story revolves around Eun-ho (played by Koo Kyo-hwan) and Jung-won (Moon Ga-young), ex-lovers who reunite by chance after 10 years and begin revisiting their shared memories, unfolding a heartfelt, realistic portrayal of modern relationships.

While promoting the film, Moon also addressed the public attention she received for her daring style choices over the past year. In particular, her appearance at a Milan fashion show in a see-through black lingerie-style dress sparked wide conversation. Later, during a trip abroad in September, she again turned heads by wearing lingerie from the luxury brand she represents as an ambassador, this time as part of her airport fashion.

Moon had previously addressed the topic on the tvN variety show You Quiz on the Block, where she explained that the outfit was part of the brand’s official collection and that she enjoys challenging expectations. “People think of me as someone who’s reserved and likes reading, so I sometimes want to disrupt that image,” she said at the time.

In the new interview, she clarified that there’s no calculated effort to break free from any particular mold. “I’m not deliberately trying to break away from anything,” she said. “Since I started acting young, I believe I’ve been discovering my identity through the roles I’ve taken. It’s a process, and I think a lot of actors who began as child actors experience this.”

She added, “I’m still learning what suits me, what’s good or bad for me, through trial and error. I’ve always loved taking on challenges, and many people have told me they were surprised, but that it suits me. If I like something, I feel like I need to try it.”

Moon Ga-young’s film Once We Were Us is set to premiere on December 31, adding another layer to the actress’s dynamic year of reinvention.
