On February 3, the production team behind the K-Pop Afrobeats Film Project announced that Nancy, Nigerian actor Uto Rosman, and South African influencer and model Sydney Seethal have been confirmed as the film’s lead actors, with full-scale production officially underway.

Set in Seoul, the K-Pop Afrobeats Film Project aims to seamlessly blend two globally influential music genres, Afrobeats and K-pop, within a cinematic narrative. The project is positioned as a large-scale cultural crossover that reflects the growing global reach of K-content.

The production company expressed strong confidence in the project, stating that “K-Pop Afrobeats Film Project is a global K-pop initiative that will carry on the momentum of K-Pop Demon Hunters while also standing as an unprecedented cultural crossover.”
Directing the film is Myung Hyun-woo, known for the drama Check-In Hanyang . The screenplay and adaptation are co-written by Kim Yoo-jun and Lee Hyo-jin. Director Myung previously received recognition for his work on the Vietnam–Korea co-produced drama Forever Young , which won a Best Work award at the Vietnam VTV Drama Awards.

The lead cast brings together talents from multiple regions. Nancy, who previously promoted as a member of the girl group MOMOLAND, takes on the film’s central role. She is joined by Uto Rosman, a Canada–Nigeria-based singer and actor, and Sydney Seethal, a prominent South African influencer and internationally active model, all embarking on a new creative challenge through this project.

Production is being jointly handled by Big Ocean ENM, known for works such as The Fiery Priest 2 and Flex X Cop , and Nigeria’s leading production company, Nemsia Studios. Nemsia Studios has secured a multi-feature deal with Amazon Prime Video, raising expectations for strong global synergy.

A representative from Big Ocean ENM stated, “This is the first joint film project between Korea and an African country. Beyond simple collaboration, it demonstrates the expansion of the K-content market and the potential for sustained cooperation between the two film industries. We plan to tell diverse stories set against the backdrop of Seoul’s beauty.” With its multinational cast, cross-genre musical foundation, and global ambitions, K-Pop Afrobeats Film Project is shaping up to be a notable milestone in the evolving landscape of international K-pop storytelling.
