“I want to bring a winning mentality, help my teammates, and train hard to earn my spot. It’s never easy—you have to fight for it,” Luka Modric said during an interview with Milan TV on July 16, expressing deep respect for the club, its players, and staff.
The former Real Madrid legend revealed he had received multiple offers, but once AC Milan reached out, he didn’t hesitate. “I wanted to stay in Europe and continue playing top-level football. When Milan called, I said yes immediately,” Modric shared.
One key factor behind his decision was a visit from Milan’s sporting director Igli Tare, who flew to Croatia to personally present the club’s future plans. This gesture left a strong impression on the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner.

Modric will begin training with his new teammates later this month, following his participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid. Under the leadership of Massimiliano Allegri, Milan are scheduled for friendlies against Arsenal, Liverpool, Perth Glory, Leeds United, and Chelsea before the Serie A season kicks off in late August.
After 13 illustrious years at Real Madrid, where he became one of the greatest midfielders in the club’s history, Modric embarks on a new chapter. His arrival has ignited excitement among Milan fans, especially after the recent departure of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City.
