miyeon hi bye event controversy

Fans of Miyeon are expressing frustration after a promotional event in Taiwan left many feeling disappointed. The member of (G)I-DLE recently visited the country to promote a cosmetics brand, where the company organized a special Hi-Bye interaction event that promised lucky fans a chance to greet the idol up close.

To qualify for the event, customers had to purchase products from the brand, with winners selected from those who spent money on the promotion. Many fans reportedly spent over NT$10,000 (more than US$300) buying multiple sets of cosmetics in hopes of winning the opportunity to meet the K-pop star.

However, once the event took place, participants said the experience lasted less than a second per person, leaving them shocked and disappointed.

Videos circulating online show fans quickly passing by Miyeon in a fast-moving line, with staff urging them to move along almost immediately after they approached the singer. Some fans said they barely had time to greet her before being pushed forward.

One attendee explained that the interaction was so brief that many people did not even realize where Miyeon was standing until they had already passed by her.

According to fans who attended, the event also had other issues. Participants said they were required to gather outside the venue early to verify their identities, meaning they missed the main press conference where Miyeon appeared. Instead of seeing her in person during the event, they had to watch the appearance through a live broadcast on their phones.

“I didn’t even want to watch the livestream,” one fan said. “Watching it just made me feel sad because I knew I was right there but couldn’t actually see her.”

Some fans shared receipts showing how much they spent to join the event. One attendee revealed she purchased eight sets of products priced at about NT$1,500 each, spending more than NT$10,000 even after discounts. Despite the large expense, she said the final interaction lasted barely a moment.

The situation at the venue was also described as chaotic. Fans claimed the crowd management was poorly organized, with confusion about the event line. Some people allegedly managed to enter restricted areas meant for media or even join the winner queue without authorization.

Adding to the controversy, netizens later discovered that a person claiming to be the child of a cosmetics counter manager was selling the exclusive photo cards that were supposed to be limited to customers who purchased products through the promotion.

As criticism spread online, the brand reportedly told fans it would offer a small compensation package consisting of a set of photo cards and product samples. However, the company had not issued an official public statement at the time of reporting.

The incident has sparked broader discussions among fans about paid fan-service events and whether brands should provide clearer expectations for interactions with celebrities. While Hi-Bye events are known for being quick, many attendees felt that the extremely short interaction and chaotic organization did not match the amount of money they spent.

For many fans, what was supposed to be an unforgettable moment with Miyeon instead turned into a frustrating experience—one that continues to stir debate across social media.
