Misunderstanding about Song Joong Ki Cleared Up: No “Greed” for Standing at the Center, Just Helping a Co-Star

Song Joong Ki ki faced allegations from some netizens of trying to steal the spotlight from his co-star, but the truth is? 

The controversy began when a video from the press conference of the movie “Hopeless” at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival started circulating on social media. In the video, Song Joong Ki looks like he wants to stand at the center position of the cast, while Hong Sa Bin is actually the male lead in the film.

This move caused some netizens to assume that Song Joong Ki was being greedy and wanted to take the spotlight from his junior since he is a senior compared to Hong Sa Bin, a rookie actor.  However, Song Joong Ki’s fans have provided evidence to prove that this is not true. 

It turns out there’s a kind of unspoken rule in the Korean film industry where the positioning of the cast at events often revolves around the MC. Those who stand closer to the MC are often perceived as having more significant roles in the film, as it’s easier for them to interact with the host and answer questions.

In this context, Song Joong Ki was actually trying to assist Hong Sa Bin. Moreover, the role of BiBi in “Hopeless” clarified the situation further. She is not the female lead, which means there was no deliberate attempt by Song Joong Ki to separate the male and female lead on the red carpet.

What’s even more telling is Song Joong Ki’s track record of nice and considerate gestures towards his co-stars, willingly stepping aside to let them take the center position.
