In a tragic and shocking turn of events, a mass shooting occurred on the evening of July 28, 2025, inside a high-rise office building located at 345 Park Avenue, in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The incident claimed the lives of five individuals, including a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer and the suspected shooter.
The building, which houses the headquarters of the National Football League (NFL) and corporate offices of Blackstone, KPMG, and other prominent firms, became the site of chaos shortly after 6:28 p.m. when the assailant entered the premises armed with an AR-style rifle and wearing body armor.
According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the shooter identified as Shane Devon Tamura, 27, from Las Vegas, Nevada arrived at the building in a BMW SUV and opened fire in the lobby. Officer Didarul Islam, 36, working off-duty as a security guard, was killed instantly while attempting to intervene. Two male civilians and one female civilian were also fatally shot.
The assailant proceeded to the 33rd floor, where another civilian was killed before Tamura reportedly turned the weapon on himself. Responding officers and emergency services secured the scene within minutes, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has since joined the investigation.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect had no significant criminal record, although he did possess a concealed carry license in Nevada and had a documented mental health history. A suicide note found at the scene reportedly mentioned frustrations linked to the NFL’s handling of player concussions, but investigators have yet to confirm any official motive.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed his condolences and praised Officer Islam’s heroism during a press briefing. “He gave his life protecting others, a true example of New York’s finest,” Adams stated.
As of now, six other individuals sustained injuries—most due to panic during the evacuation or while fleeing the scene. One NFL employee remains in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
The entire 345 Park Avenue block remains under increased security measures, and authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. Investigations continue as city officials work closely with federal and state agencies to uncover further details.
