Recently, THE BLACK LABEL officially introduced their new girl group, MEOVV. As the first girl group project personally selected and trained by Teddy, the producer behind BLACKPINK’s success, MEOVV has been highly anticipated by the public.
However, their debut single has sparked mixed reactions. Despite being led by Teddy’s production, the music hasn’t resonated well with the audience. MEOVV’s debut performance has been rather underwhelming compared to other female rookies from major companies.

On September 8, MEOVV had their first promotional stage on Inkigayo. Teddy’s “five cats” impressed with their visuals, steady skills, and outstanding stage presence.
Thanks to these strengths, MEOVV received positive feedback for their first promotional stage. The video of their “MEOW” stage on Inkigayo quickly gained over 1 million views within a day, surpassing the official MV to top the trending charts in Korea. Unlike the extravagant, high-budget MV, the public seems more interested in MEOVV’s live performance.
After watching the girls dominate the stage, the audience gained a clearer view of the group’s potential. Among the members, Ella, Gawon, and Sooin stood out the most. “Little Park Min Young” Gawon, despite not initially winning the public over with her visuals, has received endless praise for her stage charisma.
Following this, MEOVV’s debut song “MEOW” began climbing the music charts, now entering the top 100 on MelOn and peaking at #5 on the Bugs chart.
The members’ sharp gazes, professional expressions, and mastery of body control, honed under Teddy’s training, delivered a visually stunning performance. In a K-pop landscape often criticized for the declining talent of newer girl groups, a well-trained, skilled group like MEOVV excites the public.
What’s holding back MEOVV’s explosive debut is the musical strategy set by Teddy, which hasn’t yet convinced the masses. But this is only their first song, and there are still many intriguing “surprises” yet to be revealed. Teddy remains a renowned hit-maker in K-pop. Despite the critiques of their music, MEOVV is still a rookie group with immense potential, possessing both looks and skill.
