In the middle of the succession competition to become Head of LVMH, the conglomerate that owns Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany&Co., etc. among the five children of Bernard Arnault, Frédéric Arnault is also carefully preparing the groundwork for his succession.

Financière Agache

On June 6th (local time), FT (Financial Times) reported that LVMH announced the appointment of Frédéric Arnault, CEO of LVMH’s Watch division, as the Managing Director of Financière Agache. This is the holding company of LVMH and Arnault family’s investment company that owns 96% of Christian Dior. Christian Dior also holds 42% stake in LVMH. The Arnault family owns 48% of LVMH shares and 64% of the voting rights.

Frédéric Arnault is Bernard Arnault’s fourth child and third son. He graduated from the engineering university École Polytechnique in Paris, similar to his father. In 2017, he joined TAG Heuer to gain management experience and became TAG Heuer CEO in 2020, making him a potential successor. After being appointed as CEO of LVMH’s Watch division, which is managing TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith, he also took over the role of Financière Agache’s Managing Director.

The succession of LVMH Group has yet to be officially announced. In 2022, Arnault even persuaded the board of directors to increase the retirement age from 75 to 80, claiming that he had no intention of resigning. Despite that, some analysts believe that Arnault is carefully choosing the next owner of LVMH among his five children, his eldest daughter Delphine Arnault (Chief Executive Director of Dior), his eldest son Antoine Arnault (vice chairman CEO of Christian Dior SE and LVMH’s image and sustainability manager), his third son Alexandre Arnault (senior executive of Tiffany&Co.), Frédéric Arnault and the youngest son Jean Arnault (product development and marketing director of Louis Vuitton’s Watch division).

According to FT, the changes in the five children’s roles within the LVMH group can be a sign of Bernard’s choice for LVMH succession.
