Lisa Reveals How She Learnt Acting & Changed Personality without BLACKPINK

An interview with Vogue Korea has revealed various in-depth facts about BLACKPINK’s Lisa and her recent ventures.

Although Lisa has been working with Vogue since BLACKPINK’s debut, this is her first time gracing the cover of Vogue Korea as a solo artist.

According to workers of Vogue, Lisa may be one of the most influential artists in the world right now, but when you meet her in person, her innocent smile and shy but polite way of speaking quickly make her feel approachable. Additionally, it was revealed that Lisa’s biggest goal isn’t achieving No. 1 or winning awards; it’s finding “happiness”.

“Everyone has different ways of filling their happiness. For me, even if I find a small part of happiness, I get really excited and go ‘Wow!’”, Lisa said, adding, “I’m happy because this is my first photoshoot with Vogue Korea since becoming a Louis Vuitton ambassador. I’m also happy to have greeted my cats and eaten some salt bread. I’m grateful for the little things.

When asked what “New Woman” means to her, Lisa explains that it’s not about a specific ideal type but rather a mindset.

“‘New Woman’ is about confidence. I hope this song accompanies people when they wake up in the morning and reset themselves, ready to take on the day. That’s what I do. My days are busy, but listening to ‘New Woman’ helps me move on”, she shared.

In previous interviews, Lisa has often advised people to “trust themselves.” When asked if this advice really works, the female idol answered, “Yes, but it’s very difficult to keep going alone. The support of my staff, family, and friends, who believe that I can do it, has been a great help.”

Later, when asked who else or what else is inspiring Lisa other than Rosalía, Lisa confessed, “Honestly, I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had many opportunities to encounter new inspirations. But my friends, family, and the people I work with constantly inspire me. Sometimes, I also get insights from a certain mindset rather than from specific people.”

According to Lisa, one of the reasons she chose the Global Citizen Festival on September 28 is that it’s a charity event hosted by an international civic movement organization. Lisa didn’t elaborate much on the meaning, saying, “I was thankful for the invitation, and it sounded like a great stage, so I wanted to do it as soon as I heard about it.”

She added, “I’m excited to meet the fans, but I’m also nervous about having to fill the stage by myself. Do you think I’ll do well?” she asked, wrapping her arms around herself as if nervous.

Regarding why Lisa chose a “manly look” of wearing a black suit and tie with slicked-back hair to mark the start of her independent venture, the female idol remarked, “I wanted to try a concept I hadn’t done in the past seven years. Since it’s my own company, I thought a ‘boss lady’ style would suit me well. I wanted the photo to reflect a cool start to my new chapter.”

According to Lisa, the name LLOUD was chosen because she wants to present her vision loudly and broadly, with the double “L” cleverly referencing her full name, Lalisa.

When asked about her mindset as a boss and leader of the company, Lisa replied, “Oh, the word ‘boss’ feels so awkward! Since I don’t have much experience leading a team, I listen to the opinions of my company members as if they were family or friends. We’re all moving forward together, having fun.”

Lisa has mentioned in the past that her personality has changed. She used to prioritize others’ feelings over her own, making it difficult to express her likes and dislikes in her work.

“It used to be hard for me to speak my mind clearly because I was afraid I’d make the other person uncomfortable. But then, the result wouldn’t satisfy anyone. The other person might feel frustrated because they don’t know what I want. I’ve realized that clearly expressing my opinions is the key to achieving great results. After all, we’re all professionals”, the female idol said.

However, change came around the time Lisa released “LALISA” and “MONEY” in 2021. While preparing for her solo singles, Lisa had to make most decisions on her own, unlike when she was working with BLACKPINK, where she had to consider the opinions of the other members.

“I’m still not great at it, but I’m getting better bit by bit,” she said with a laugh.

According to Lisa, her usual fashion is also rockstar-inspired, to the point she “can’t resist buying leather pants and bold, intense shoes”.

“It’s probably because I was so immersed in the song for a while”, the female idol shared.

In addition, it turns out her tanned look in the single’s jacket photo came naturally while she was in Thailand for a drama shoot. Lisa has joined the new season of “The White Lotus”, the acclaimed show that’s swept both the Emmy and Golden Globe awards, set against the backdrop of a luxury resort. Lisa shared that she auditioned by performing a scene from the script and cried when she heard she had been cast.

“When I first auditioned, I had no confidence. I doubted whether I could pull it off, so it was all the more emotional when I was selected. I feel so honored to be part of a show watched by a global audience.”

She then recalled that taking acting lessons was a new experience, saying “Since I’ve been dancing since I was young, I kept trying to find the rhythm even while acting. I’d take a beat before responding to my scene partner’s lines, almost like dancing. When I tried not to follow the rhythm, I suddenly didn’t know where to place my hands, and my body felt awkward. I worked hard with my acting coach to overcome that.”

Lisa also said she hopes to try action acting in the future.

As one of most influential artists today, with over 140 million Instagram followers, Lisa admitted there’s some pressure.

“However, if I think too deeply about it, I won’t enjoy posting. I try to find a balance between being cautious and having fun. Fortunately, my parents are always watching over me”, she concluded.

Finally, when asked what she would say to her younger self, Lisa said she would pass, stating, “Not knowing the future is what allows you to work hard. Honestly, it wasn’t such a dark time for me back then. I was happy because I was doing what I loved.”
