Lim Se-ryung, born in 1977, is the eldest daughter of the Daesang family, one of South Korea’s largest food conglomerates. She drew public attention not only as the ex-wife of Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong, but also for her independent career, raising two children, and a long-term relationship with actor Lee Jung-jae.

Lim Se-ryung studied business at Yonsei University before pursuing a degree in psychology at New York University, equipping her with the expertise to enter the family business early. She later held executive roles at Daesang, eventually becoming Vice President in 2021 after spearheading brand rejuvenation and expansion into convenient foods.

In 1998, Lim Se-ryung married Lee Jae-yong, then heir to Samsung. The high-profile union produced two children, Lee Ji-ho (b. 2000) and Lee Won-joo (b. 2004), before the couple divorced in 2009. On November 28, 2025, the two publicly appeared at their son Ji-ho’s naval commission their first encounter in 16 years though they did not interact, sit together, or comment publicly.

Following the divorce, Lim Se-ryung deliberately distanced herself from the “Samsung daughter-in-law” image, focusing on professional growth and maintaining privacy. Korean media notes that she avoids entertainment events and other attention-grabbing appearances.

Since 2015, Lim Se-ryung has been in a long-term relationship with internationally acclaimed actor Lee Jung-jae, known for Squid Game. The couple appears at awards and international events, keeping a measured distance from media scrutiny. Their relationship is widely regarded as stable and enduring, making them one of South Korea’s most admired celebrity couples.
Lim Se-ryung’s story reflects resilience and independence balancing family, career, and a high-profile romantic life while carving her own identity separate from Samsung’s shadow.
