On May 7, the cast and production team of My Royal Nemesis attended a production presentation held at the SBS building in Mok-dong, Seoul. During the event, the drama’s director confidently declared, “Lim Ji-yeon is our competitive edge.”

The series is set to air in the same time slot as MBC’s hit drama Perfect Crown, which has been maintaining double-digit ratings and strong buzz rankings.

Rather than appearing intimidated by the competition, Lim Ji-yeon showed confidence in the project and her performance.

“I did everything I possibly could for this drama. At one point, I even thought, ‘Do I really have to go this far?’ I poured all my abilities into it,” she shared. “I expressed and created everything freely, so I feel very confident.”

The actress is once again taking on comedy following her previous project Nice to Not Meet You, after becoming widely known for darker and more intense roles in dramas such as The Glory and Lies Hidden in My Garden.

Speaking about the challenge, she explained: “Comedy was the main reason I chose this project. It was a huge challenge for me. I’ve mostly played dark characters before, so I wanted to try something lively and cheerful.”

Lim Ji-yeon also highlighted her chemistry with co-star Heo Nam-jun, revealing that they worked hard to naturally develop the drama’s “love-hate” dynamic on set.

Meanwhile, Jang Seung-jo teased another memorable villain role after previously portraying a brutal antagonist in As You Stood By.

“I think this role could surpass my previous work,” he said. “This character knows restraint. He’s not someone who openly explodes, which makes him even more dangerous.”

Lee Se-hee, who plays a top celebrity in the series, admitted she studied numerous real-life actresses’ interviews to prepare for the role.

The cast also enthusiastically discussed viewership pledges during the event. If the drama surpasses 20% ratings, actor Kim Min-seok promised to work as a reporter’s manager for two weeks, while Lee Se-hee volunteered to do makeup services. Lim Ji-yeon jokingly promised to host an event at Gyeongbokgung Palace wearing a hanbok alongside her co-stars.

My Royal Nemesis tells the story of an unknown actress possessed by the spirit of a notorious Joseon-era villainess and a ruthless chaebol heir described as “a monster created by capitalism,” leading to a chaotic romance filled with tension and comedy.

The drama premieres on May 8 at 9:50 PM KST on SBS.
