Lee Yoo-young Cheers on Friendly Competition with Korean National University of Arts Classmates Kim Go-eun and Ahn Eun-jin

On January 24th, Lee Yoo-young appeared on SBS PowerFM’s ‘Park Ha-sun’s Cinema Town,’ along with director Lim Sun-ae of ‘Ms. Apocalypse.’

Lee Yoo-young boasted about her unique friendship with actresses Ahn Eun-jin and Kim Go-eun, who graduated with her from the Korean National University of Arts.

Lee Yoo-young’s ‘Ms. Apocalypse,’ Ahn Eun-jin’s ‘Citizen of a Kind,’ and Kim Go-eun’s ‘Exhuma’ are all set to be released around the same time.

Regarding this, Lee Yoo-young expressed her support, “They are so kind. Even though our films are being released at the same time, there is no competition, and I genuinely hope we all do well and succeed together.”

‘Ms. Apocalypse’ tells the story of Yeong-mi (played by Lee Yoo-young), who loses everything due to unrequited love in the year 1999, when everyone thought the world was ending. The plot unfolds as the wife of Yeong-mi’s crush, Eugene (played by Im Sun-woo), appears.

The movie, set in the background of the end of 1999 and the Y2K sentiment, stimulates a nostalgic feeling. In order to express a unique character, Lee Yoo-young boldly transformed with fangs and red hair.

Director Lim commented, “There was a task to turn Yoo-young into a character that could be teased within the movie. She is so beautiful in any way, so I wanted to show her in a slightly different way. Actually having fangs made pronunciation difficult for her. It blended well with the character of Yeong-mi.”

Lee Yoo-young also shared some behind-the-scenes stories, saying, “I was contemplating whether to put on freckles to portray an unlikeable appearance when the director mentioned it. I wanted to express unattractiveness in a bold way, so I attached two, not wanting to overdo it.”

Filming without makeup, Lee Yoo-young revealed, “I didn’t add any artificial freckles or makeup. I shot with a bare face. Usually, actors are very concerned about their makeup during filming, fearing it might get ruined. There’s something they can’t let go of, but when playing the role of Yeong-mi, there was a sense of liberation. I even tried to make myself look worse by constantly biting my lips and eating to gain weight.”

Meanwhile, ‘Ms. Apocalypse’ is released today (January 24th).
