Marathon runner Lee Soo-min has raised human rights concerns following excessive physical contact by director Kim Wan-gi during the 2025 Incheon International Marathon.

Lee Soo-min won the domestic women’s division on November 23 in Songdo, Incheon, with a time of 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 41 seconds. However, controversy erupted at the finish line when Kim Wan-gi reportedly hugged Lee Soo-min’s torso forcefully, causing her pain.

In response to the incident, Kim Wan-gi explained that his actions were “intended to protect the athlete.”

Lee Soo-min clarified her position, stating, “I have never labeled this incident as sexual harassment. The core issue is not sexual intent, but the severe pain I experienced from unexpected, strong physical contact immediately after crossing the finish line.”

Although the incident may not constitute sexual harassment, Lee Soo-min emphasized that the physical contact itself is a problem and has formally requested an investigation by the Sports Fair Committee.

Samcheok City’s Sports Council announced that the Sports Fair Committee will hold a meeting on December 10 to review the case and take strict measures if any violations are confirmed.
