Lee Seung Gi, who debuted in 2004 with the smash hit Because You’re My Woman, has long been one of Korea’s most beloved entertainers. From his early days as the “Nation’s Younger Brother” to acclaimed roles in Brilliant Legacy, My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho, and Mouse, he built a reputation as a singer, actor, and variety star free from controversy.
However, his image took a hit in 2023 when he married actress Lee Da In, the daughter of actress Kyeon Mi Ri. His father-in-law, Lee Hong Heon, was later arrested for stock manipulation, drawing heavy public criticism that spilled over onto Seung Gi. Despite initially defending his in-laws, Seung Gi eventually issued an apology and announced he had severed ties with them after details of Lee Hong Heon’s illegal stock dealings and illicit profits emerged.
On September 24, Lee Hong Heon was released on bail after four months in detention, but Seung Gi has remained silent on the matter since cutting ties.
Just days before the release, on September 21, it was revealed that Seung Gi’s property investments had paid off handsomely. In 2020, he purchased a home in the affluent neighborhood of Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, for 5.63 billion KRW. Surrounded by chaebol families and foreign embassies, the home is now estimated to be worth around 11.1 billion KRW, effectively doubling in value within five years.
News of his 5.5 billion KRW profit quickly spread online, with many praising his investment acumen despite family controversies. Real estate experts have also cited his purchase as a prime example of successful high-end property investment.
Currently, Lee Seung Gi is preparing to return as the host of JTBC’s Sing Again 4, set to premiere on October 14. Fans and industry insiders alike are eager to see him reaffirm his place as one of Korea’s most trusted entertainers.
