“The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” is about a contractual marriage between Park Yeon-woo (Lee Se-young), a Joseon Confucian girl in the 19th century who travels 200 years to Korea in 2023, and Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk), an emotionless rich man in the 21st century.

The first episode showed Park Yeon-woo being forced to marry Kang Tae-ha. However, her husband collapsed and died on the first night, and Park Yeon-woo was kidnapped by an unknown person. She was thrown into a well and eventually landed in the year 2023. In the following episode, Park Yeon-woo was seen adapting to life in the future. She met Kang Tae-ha in the 21st century and got involved in a fake marriage.

Lee Se-young

Lee Se-young is known as a “trustworthy historical drama goddess”. With her solid acting skills in the historical genre ever since she was a child, the actress has impressed viewers in various historical dramas, such as “The Red Sleeve” and “The Crowned Clown”.

Park Yeon-woo is Lee Se-young’s first title role in 26 years since her debut. Therefore, it’s a completely new challenge for her. This character is not limited to historical scenes but it has to be portrayed in a modern background because the drama is mainly based on modern times.

The portrayal of a 19th-century character adapting to life in the 21st century is a challenge that Lee Se-young must figure out herself. Therefore, one of the most anticipated factors about this drama is the changes in the way Lee Se-young says and acts when her character travels in times.

In the process of encountering a new era and culture, comedy acting is also an essential point to bring laughter to viewers. In the second episode, the scenes where Park Yeon-woo was amazed by the taste of Choco Pie and put her head inside the ice cream freezer are examples of comedy elements to entertain viewers.

Lee Se-young’s unchanging charm with the image of an independent female character is also an attractive point. Park Yeon-woo is a woman with a subjective personality who boldly did what she wanted to do in the Joseon era, a time when it was difficult for women to reveal their aspirations. Therefore, viewers are curious about whether this character will be able to fulfill her dreams in the new Korea in the future, where there is freedom. Lee Se-young’s determination to express the growing process of Park Yeon-woo is also anticipated.

At the press conference of “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract”, Lee Se-young shared, “I like the kind of character who has many shortcomings and grows throughout the story”, adding “Please watch until the end of the drama and look forward to seeing the growth of the character”.

Starring Lee Se-young, “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on MBC.
