In a heartfelt and unexpected livestream titled “[Emergency Broadcast] Lee Min-jung’s National Apology“, actress Lee Min-jung publicly addressed a promise she made to fans—and the comedic chaos it has since caused.
The August 7 video on her personal YouTube channel MJ was streamed live, showing the star emotionally apologizing with visible regret. Wiping away tears, she confessed, “It’s my fault… I’m so sorry. Please help spread the word and subscribe so I’m not in this embarrassing situation anymore.”
Earlier this year, Lee Min-jung had made a bold claim on her channel: “If I reach 500,000 subscribers, I’ll bring in Director Park Chan-wook and my husband Lee Byung-hun.” As of now, her subscriber count hovers around 340,000–350,000, with her new film scheduled for promotional release in mid-September.
The problem? Lee Byung-hun has appeared in videos with his face blurred out to honor the promise—something that’s now causing logistical headaches for both the couple and the film’s promotional team.
Lee Min-jung shared a fan’s recent message during the livestream: “Lee Byung-hun mentioned at a fan club party that if the channel doesn’t hit 500K before the film promotion, he’ll have to do interviews with a blurred face.” The comment left Lee Min-jung sighing in distress: “I’ve even had nightmares about it… blurry faces chasing me in my sleep.”

She revealed that her husband, Lee Byung-hun, is firmly against breaking the rule. “He said, ‘You can’t go back on your word. You’ve been blurring me every time I even walk past the camera. You can’t suddenly reveal my face just for promotion.’”
Even comedian Shin Dong-yup offered words of advice at Lee Byung-hun’s birthday party, telling her, “Don’t be so anxious. That’s the charm of YouTube—you stick to what you say.”
Despite the humor, Lee Min-jung was visibly stressed. “I even caught a cold from all the stress,” she admitted. She asked viewers for their opinions, but comments were divided. Some joked about alternative solutions like using a Squid Game-style Front Man mask, which she said her husband had flatly rejected due to discomfort.

When one fan suggested a “Golden Challenge” to reach the 500K milestone, Lee Min-jung replied jokingly, “That’s for the 1 million mark!” —adding another spontaneous promise she might regret later.
Despite her husband’s stance that “everything should happen naturally,” Lee Min-jung closed the video by urging fans once again: “Please subscribe as much as you can before mid-September. It would make promoting the film less painful and help me feel less guilty towards the movie team and fans.”
