South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in, currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), is on the verge of a sensational move to Arsenal FC.

According to reports from multiple European media outlets, the Premier League club has entered direct negotiations with PSG and aims to finalize the deal within the next two weeks.

If completed, this transfer would mark a historic return of a South Korean player to Arsenal for the first time since Park Chu-young joined the club in 2011.

Lee Kang-in: A Versatile Asset

At just 24 years old, Lee Kang-in has already amassed experience across Europe’s top leagues, having played in both La Liga and Ligue 1. Known for his technical ability, vision, and positional flexibility, Lee Kang-in is capable of operating as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, or on either wing. He can also be deployed as a false nine, making him an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s dynamic and fluid tactical setup.

Sources close to Arsenal suggest that manager Mikel Arteta has requested the club to push forward with the deal swiftly, with hopes of finalizing negotiations before the summer transfer window closes.

Super Cup Spotlight Boosts Interest

Lee Kang-in’s standout performance in the UEFA Super Cup has significantly elevated his market profile. Coming on as a substitute in the 2025 clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Lee Kang-in scored a spectacular long-range goal and calmly converted a penalty in the shootout, helping PSG secure their first-ever Super Cup title. His heroics were widely praised by media, including the BBC, which described him as PSG’s “lifeline.”

Despite this, Lee Kang-in’s position at PSG remains uncertain. Although he made 49 appearances in the previous season, his average playing time was limited to just over 50 minutes per match. Since the arrival of new signings such as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, competition for starting spots has intensified, further complicating his future at the club.

Competing Interest from Other Clubs

In addition to Arsenal, Manchester United and Napoli have also been linked with the Korean international. However, Arsenal appears to be in the most advanced stage of negotiations. The North London club reportedly favors an initial loan deal with an option to buy, while PSG is pushing for a permanent transfer, valued around €30 million.

Earlier this year, French outlet Livefoot identified Arsenal as the most likely destination for Lee Kang-in, and English tabloid The Sun revealed that Arteta and new sporting director Andrea Berta are both keen admirers of the player. Berta has followed Lee Kang-in since his time at Atlético Madrid.

A Historic Transfer in the Making

If the deal is completed, Lee Kang-in would be only the second South Korean to play for Arsenal after Park Chu-young, whose time at the club was short-lived and largely underwhelming. However, with Lee Kang-in’s established credentials and tactical maturity, expectations are far higher.

His potential arrival could add depth and creativity to a squad already boasting talents such as Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli. Analysts suggest Lee Kang-in could thrive under Arteta’s leadership, offering both immediate impact and long-term value.

Lee Kang-in’s potential transfer to Arsenal represents a pivotal moment not only in his career but also for the representation of South Korean footballers in the Premier League.
