On July 23, the production team of Embassy of Foreign Nations in Korea officially announced the casting of Lee Junho and actress Hong Hwa Yeon as the drama’s leads.
Embassy of Foreign Nations in Korea tells the story of a rookie human diplomat who is accidentally assigned to a mysterious embassy that manages supernatural beings living among humans. The secret diplomatic mission oversees non-human residents from another realm, ensuring they coexist peacefully with humanity without revealing their identities. Blending modern diplomacy with fantasy, the series introduces a unique fictional universe centered around an embassy unlike any other.

Lee Jun Ho will portray Cha Yeon, the embassy’s most mysterious ambassador. Cha Yeon is a dragon and a water deity with the power to control water. Much like the element he governs, he possesses a gentle and tranquil personality but can become overwhelmingly powerful when provoked. Having remained on Earth for more than a thousand years, Cha Yeon has lived a lonely and uneventful existence until an ordinary human unexpectedly enters his life and changes everything. The role marks the first time Lee Jun Ho has portrayed a non-human character since making his debut.
Hong Hwa Yeon has been cast as Go Mi Woo, a newly appointed diplomat who unexpectedly finds herself assigned to the secret embassy. A former Asian Games gold medalist in archery, Mi Woo enters a world that ordinary humans were never meant to discover. Her lively personality and growing relationship with Cha Yeon are expected to deliver the romantic chemistry at the heart of the fantasy series.

The original drama is created by Shin Ha Eun, the writer behind the hit series Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and Love Next Door. Directing the project is Bae Hyun Jin, who previously co-directed Big Mouth and Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow, and later helmed Hierarchy. Together, the creative team aims to deliver a heartfelt fantasy romance set within an imaginative world where humans and supernatural beings secretly coexist.
With its original premise, fantasy-driven romance, and Lee Jun Ho’s first non-human role, Embassy of Foreign Nations in Korea is already shaping up to be one of tvN’s most anticipated upcoming dramas.
