During a press interview held in Yongsan, Seoul on July 24 following the finale of Mnet’s World of Street Woman Fighter, Lee Jung discussed the viral success of the “Soda Pop” dance challenge from Netflix’s hit animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters across short-form platforms.

“Sometimes the biggest hits come from spontaneous ideas,” she said. “The shoulder dance wasn’t even intentional—it just came to me as I listened to the rhythm. I didn’t even realize it would be called the ‘shoulder dance,’ so it’s surreal seeing so many people follow it.”

As “Soda Pop” gains traction globally, thanks in part to its catchy choreography and animation, Lee Jung was asked which celebrity cover impressed her the most. Without hesitation, she responded, “It was Cha Eun-woo. Not because of technique, but because it resonated deeply.”

Lee Jung revealed that she had been involved in K-Pop Demon Hunters since the initial planning stage. “From the beginning, I knew that the character Jinwoo was modeled after Cha Eun-woo. So when he danced to the challenge himself, it genuinely felt like Jinwoo had come to life. It really hit me emotionally,” she explained.

Speaking about the production experience, Lee Jung shared, “During our first meetings, I could feel the excitement and spark even through video calls. These weren’t just prepared responses—it was real passion.”

She continued, “When passionate and visionary people come together, there’s nothing they can’t achieve. I was truly inspired working with such a team for three years. This wasn’t just about contributing choreography to an animation—it was a deeply motivating experience.”

When asked if she expected the project’s success, she replied, “I believe sincerity resonates. In the arts, love and emotion often matter more than just skill. And that love always gets recognized.”

Lee Jung emphasized that while her role was just one part of a larger ensemble, the production team behind K-Pop Demon Hunters poured their hearts into the project: “Even though I gave it my all, my part was small compared to the level of dedication I saw from the creators. They staked everything on this film.”

The interview came shortly after the conclusion of World of Street Woman Fighter on July 22, a global dance competition series. Lee Jung’s crew BUMSUP finished in fourth place, while Kyoka’s Osaka Ojo Gang from Japan claimed the championship.
